Adopting the correct labelling of chemicals in the European Economic Area

mercredi 24 août 2022
To comply with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP), a label must contain the contact details of a legal entity within the European Economic Area ("the Community"), according to Article 17(1)a of CLP: A substance or mixture classified as hazardous and contained in packing shall bear a label including the name, address, and telephone number of the supplier(s).

According to Article 2 of CLP, the supplier is defined as any manufacturer, importer, downstream user, or distributor placing on the market a substance, on its own or in a mixture, or a mixture. Each of these entities is itself defined as a natural or legal person established within the Community.

Warning: Since Brexit, GB suppliers must comply with CLP and must therefore indicate on their labels contact details of the relevant legal entity, when their market is within the EEA (“The Community”).
